Caramel Apple

Halloween Treats-3

The Caramel Apple.
It’s SO good!

Halloween is fast approaching and here in the States it is done BIG! The largest quantity of candy is actually sold during halloween as opposed to Christmas or Valentines day. So you know I had to get myself some candy as well. I had a plan…

The other day, the ‘Engineer’ (my husband) and I went to do some shopping in a large grocery store. I noticed that they had some candy on sale, so I told the hubby that maybe we should get some bags of candy in case some kids stopped over at our house for ‘trick or treat’. Can you guess what the hubby said?

“Hmm, I am not sure that is a good idea, I think you actually want to buy the candy for yourself”.

Imagine that!!!!!! Yes, I was hoping that I could hide some and then have the rest out for any kids that may come by. Hmm, was he in my head when I was having those thoughts??? Of course I wanted the candy for myself. I guess he really knows me :-)

Anyways, we ended up not getting the candy but I got a bunch of other stuff to make treats that would be just as enjoyable. I saw these mini apples and I just could not resist. they are so cute. Check them out beside the regular sized apples.

Sugar Cropped-1

The Mini apple and the Regular sized apple

With these lovely mini apples, I present to you the Caramel Apple. These beauties are so chewy and sweet and tart all at the same time. They are usually made with Werther’s Caramel Candy but I know these caramels are not available in Nigeria. I wanted an ingredient that was easily assessable to my Nigerian people as well, so I have used the Werther’s Original Hard Candies. I know these are everywhere in Nigeria. At some point they even sold them in traffic (they probably still do). If you are lucky enough, you can also get your apples in traffic and you are good to go!

All you need are your apples, Werther’s hard candies, milk, butter and some sticks or skewers,.

Sugar Cropped-5

Unwrap the candy and place in a pot, add milk and butter. Heat on a LOW flame and allow to melt, stirring continuously. Mine took less than 10 mins.

Sugar Cropped-6

This is probably the longest step ;-)

Once you are done, you would have the most luscious caramel ever. All you have to do now is to dip your apples (very quickly).

Halloween Treats-2

Ant Invasion!!!!

You just have to try them. They are so easy to make.

Halloween Treats-4

Nigerian People You have no excuse not to make these. They are so easy and you can get the Werther’s Hard Candies in most grocery stores. The regular green apples would also work well for these.Give it a go, you would be glad you did.

Enjoy!
